Police are asking for any information about the shooting that resulted in the death of a woman in NW Huntsville this evening.

Officers on the scene say the shooting happened just before midnight in the 6400 block of Hollow Road in northwest Huntsville.  Police have searched the area with K-9 officers in an attempt to find the suspect(s).

Huntsville Police Chief Barnes would not elaborate on what led to the shooting, or what information they have been able to uncover but did offer a vague hint on the possible circumstances.

“When people engage in activity that is dangerous or not safe or reckless, there’s generally consequences,” said Barnes. “Sometimes the consequences can result in the death of another person. We are investigating this unusual incident. If anyone has any information about what occurred here this evening, please call the crime stoppers hotline.”

Paramedics took the woman to Huntsville Hospital in critical condition. She died shortly after arriving from what Doctors are saying was an animal attack.

"When she arrived, she was really badly cut up." Said Dr. Foster, who was on duty when the woman was brought in. "She'd been shot, but that's not what killed her. It looks like someone sicked a pack of wild dogs on her as well. My condolences to the family."

The woman's identity has been omitted to protect the privacy of the family.
