Spending your XP

All items purchased with experience points must be done through a downtime submission.
All items purchased during a downtime are not available until the next game. It is assumed that your character spent the month learning or acquiring that item.
For example, you cannot purchase your character's first dot of Resources and spend the resources acquired from the merit on the same downtime. You could, however, spend them at the next game, and in subsequent downtimes.

ATTRIBUTES, SKILLS AND MERITS
Players can purchase a single dot per Attribute, Skill or Physical Merit per downtime without using a Resolve action. This includes multi-dot merits. (If the merit is a 2 OR a 4 dot, you may purchase the two dot version of the merit without a resolve action. 3 dot merits may be purchased without a resolve action.)
A second dot of the same Skill or Physical Merit can be purchased by spending a downtime action to spend extra time studying or acquiring it. (If the merit is a 2 OR 4 dot merit, you may purchase the two dot version of the merit without a resolve action, but the 4 dot version must be accompanied by a resolve action explaining how your character is spending more time learning this ability.)
A second dot of the same Attribute cannot be purchased during a downtime.
You may purchase multiple dots of Mental and Social Merits, but please apply common sense. (ie: Going from zero in resources to multiple dots needs to have justification. How did you suddenly go from broke to having money to throw around in so short a time? Or, purchasing a herd from 0 to multiple dots. How did you convince all these people to be your devoted followers so quickly? Things like this will need an action to justify.)

Blood Potency may only be increased by a single dot during a month with experience points (but there is always diablerie...)

Keep in mind that the Storytellers might require that your character have a teacher or mentor to teach you certain Merits or powers. It is also possible that the Storytellers will simply deny your character's ability to acquire a particular item for reasons particular to our chronicle (such as game-balance or incompatibility with the setting). If you have questions about how a particular item might be acquired, it is suggested that you discuss such with a Storyteller before putting it into your downtime.

DISCIPLINES
Players can purchase multiple dots of Disciplines. To purchase a second dot of the same Discipline during a downtime a player must spend a downtime action explaining the extra time spent on acquiring the increase.
In-clan Disciplines and out-of-clan Celerity, Resilience, or Vigor do not require a teacher or a Resolve action to learn.
Other out-of-clan Disciplines require a teacher who has that Discipline in-clan (through either their clan or bloodline) and the expenditure of a Resolve action by both the teacher and the pupil.
Remember that out-of-clan Disciplines cost seven (7) experience points times new dots whether or not your character requires a teacher. You must have and spend the xp to purchase a Discipline during the downtime in which your character receives instruction. Failure to expend the necessary experience points at that time will require the process to be repeated.

Covenant-specific Disciplines such as Coils, Theban Sorcery, and CrĂșac may not be taught to characters outside the covenant and do not require a teacher or Resolve action as long as your character has at least 1 dot of status in the appropriate covenant.

Bloodline specific Disciplines, Devotions, or other powers which are unique to a particular bloodline may not be taught or learned outside their bloodline without exception
